Brides to be- would you let your husband-to-be sew your wedding dress?
Posted on 2008 under sew dress, sew dresses | 23 Comments30 Aug
Here is the question and answer from Yahoo Answers that I thought was interesting. I wonder how many of you would allow your man to sew for you? I’m not so sure I could even get my husband to pick up a needle and thread, let alone sew dresses as special as a wedding dress.
Question: I have the worst skill with designing stuff and when my to-be-hubby offered to sew my dress, I jumped at the chance! He even made my veil! I never knew that he could sew and it was so sexy to watch him make my dress. I want to know if anyone else has a hubby as diverse as mine? BTW He is a US Marine Vet and he said he learned to sew in the service! He can also cook!
Answer: Hey, if the dude has talent, why not? One of my grandfathers was a tailor!

but if it works for you go for it!
it would make it seem more special to me!

Girl – he's a keeper, a man who can sew and cook is a gem, as long as he treats you well. I see nothing wrong with him sewing your gown. My husband went with me to pick out mine.

Why not? I think that's awesome! My man cant cook or sew to save his life (we're working on the cooking thing). I'm sure it was such a great bonding experience to do something that special together.

I am looking to trade my husband in for a Marine Vet…one that can cook and sew… what unit was he is…. =) just kidding!
I would settle for my husband to do a load of laundry once in a while…. that is far as he goes for touching material
You can wear your dress proud!

My husband can't sew a button back on his trousers. I can't imagine what type of train wreck he would assemble as a wedding gown.
You should sign him up for Project Runway~ Is he catering your wedding too with his fab. cooking skills?
Very cool! Congrats!

My fiance cooks and sews, but I wouldn't let him sew my wedding dress. He's not supposed to see it until I'm in it walking down the aisle! He also knows how to macrome and make dream catchers, so yeah. I've got one that actually does more than channel surf and play golf. However, I like to take pride in my domestic prowess, so just because he can do those things doesn't mean I let him do it all the time. (I'll admit, I can't sew that well and I'm a little jealous). He humors me, and we usually compromise. He's a really great guy.

My husband doesn't sew, alas, but I know several men who do.
In fact, once my brother and his wife were getting ready to go to a Civil War re-enactment event and he sewed her a new camp dress while she made his black powder bullets.
If my brother hadn't lived all the way across the country from me when I was planning my wedding, I might have asked him to sew my gown.
On the other hand, my guy is plenty diverse. He's a musician/singer/songwriter, a whiz with computers, a decent car mechanic, and reasonable electrician. Oh, and a walking encyclopedia about The Beatles, Steely Dan, Broadway musicals up to about 1930, Mozart, old radio shows (Jack Benny, Fred Allen, Fibber McGee and Molly, Eddie Cantor, etc.), and nearly anything Patrick McGoohan has ever appeared in.
Yeah, he keeps me entertained. He also does a killer Al Jolson impression.
Oh, and while he's not the world's most inspirational cook, he's more than capable of turning out a decent meal when needed.
My guy. I think I'll keep him.
Yours sounds wonderful, too! I think it's great that he made your wedding gown.

I always have a tendency to ponder a little harder about every thing after I browse someone new’s blog and their insights. This along with other articles in your blog here most definitely provide some food for thought. I ended up on here after a little bit of job related research on Google and for some reason ran into your weblog. Had a great time going through your posts and I’m going to be adding you to my Google Reader to keep track later on. Many thanks!

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
